Join the army. Go Infantry. Go to mountain warfare school. And they’ll pay you for that. In addition there is a very good chance you’ll see some very cool mountains in south central asia.

In 20 years if your body isn’t shot you can retire and hike all you want.:cheers

Thanks for the advise, but for many reasons the military aint my gig.

I worked ten years for a ski resort, but was recently laid off. I’ve been shoveling snow lately, but now it’s all been shoveled. Hopefully it snows some more!!

Otherwise I’ll keep lookin…:cheers

We are shooting to hike the trail this year due to my husband losing his job last summer thru no fault of his own to a lay off and he has not found work yet either. Jobs are scarce right now.

Best of luck to you and your husband Tigger. If you can get on the trial, you should go for it. It might be the best thing to happen for you both. The AT is awsome and life changing. If I had more money saved I would go hiking too.:cheers

Man so many people on these forums are so serious and scared. They could go to church and you could try post-poning until next year and writing to some companies for a sponsorship.

Are there really companies that sponser thru-hikes? Which ones do you think might do this? That would be sweet!!8)

abolutely. but youd have to wait another year because i tried a month before i left for my hike and it takes a hella long time to approve the sponsorship. you need a HUGE resume…impressive, make yourself sound amazing. go ahead and put it in now and give it your best shot. if it doesnt go through that also gives you a year to scrape some cash together

I had planned on going to the local bank and taking all the money! Why wait for sponshorship when banks are willing to do it for free! And that way you can hike all the trails you want and only have to come back for the next bank job! Isn’t life grand! Living the dream!

Write a proposal for a Jobs Stimulus grant from the government to create or save jobs. Then hire a a support staff and hike a supported hike. You’ll need to hire people to buy and prepare your food, drive your equipment to road crossings and pick you up and take you to town each night.

In the proposal remember to include all the support your fellow hikers will need also, lots of Trail Magic. You’ll be a big hit up and down the trail as you assist others. Shoot for the moon, think big.

That is one of the best ideas I’ve heard. With this administration it would probably work!! Awsome idea!!!:cheers

Sponsors also provide you with free gear.
