Hello all....Is there any one else out there that just feels like they need to put on the pack and go for a long hike anywhere just as long as they are hiking ???

Brother Buzz...I think almost anyone visiting this site feels that way.

I feel your pain Brother Buzz. I just moved to Colorado Springs and Pike's Peak is already calling to me. There is a 12 mile trail that goes up it, I'm trying to get someone to go with me. There is a camp halfway up. 6 miles doesn't sound like much but it has huge elevation gain in that 6 miles. My pack and cliff bars are eyeballing me as if to say "lets go man".

...a post hike syndrome that lingers years after. The more joyful one's thru-hike experience the more vivid the memories. As a poor substitution to hiking, I tend to post encouragement to this years class on their guestbooks. The more posts the better I feel - quite selfish of me isn't it?

Sort of like trail magic - we who receive it while on the trail always benefit, but those who give it also receive joy in doing something helpful. But…boy would it be nice to don a pack, have simplicity in life for five months and live in mountain forests breezes. Nothing better for some of us.

This time of year it is almost painful to read some of these Trail Journals. We envy the class of 2012. Unfortunately, my wife Rocky and I are now limited to short duration hikes once a year due to family circumstances.

We wish God speed and good weather to this year’s hikers. Enjoy it and savor it. Our 2005-6 hike was an unforgetable experience.

I go into the woods and forget about it all. The day I get out of the woods I'm already thinking of my next hike!!!
