Hi,
I’d like to get a few pointers and training on travelling though snow and using an ice axe. Can anyone recommend a good outfit the works out of the bay area or yosemite.

We set up a trip through REI using a guide on Mt Shasta that was good. It has been long enough ago that I can’t remember the name of the company!
I called Sunrise Mtn Sports and they suggested a service at Bear Valley at http://www.mtadventure.com/ I spoke to Rob and he highly recommended them.
Enjoy! I had fun at class and have felt comfortable with my ice ax since then.
Did you buy an ax? I head Brian Frankel talking about his on Trailcast and would like to check that out.
BTW, when I was deep into quicksand in UT last summer I knew to stretch out flat on the surface to slowly extricate myself. That position felt like self arrest position and helped me calmly deal with my situation. So the training paid off unexpectedly!

I second the recommendation of Mountain Adventure Seminars in Bear Valley. I took an avalanche course through them, and they are great!

Thanks a bunch guys. I’m trying to decide between the one day Ice axe course or the 2 day, one night seminar where you also attempt to summit Lassen.
Pretty good prices too!:cheers
