I was just in Sam’s club today and noticed they carried a big 5 lb bag of Idahoan mashed potato instant potato’s for i think it was 4.80 ish. I know some one had remarked somewhere they really liked them and i can’t remember if they said they were having problems finding them, but I thought I would mention it.
Also, they had a 3 pack of those little cheese spread wedges–the ones with the red smiling cow, cant remember the name–brie? anyway, they are really good and dont have to be refridgerated. they were about 6.50 for 18 wedges. taste really good on bagels. and they even have low fat with low carbs and low sugar that tastes good! I’m enjoying some now, they are coming with me when I go in a few weeks.

also, i found a great website for ordering freeze dried foods, www.cariboucry.com i believe it was. they had freeze dried rib eye steaks! 4 for 12$ american. i ordered a pack to try when i go. I will post a thing when i get back as to how they turned out. also picked up some freeze dried sicilian veggies, mixed veggies, southwestern corn, cheesecake (ok even diabetics can splurge once in a while) and cheese omletes at great prices. will let you know about the quality.

good hiking all.

I like the flavored Idahoans: loaded baked, 4 cheese, garlic, butter, etc. I’ve tried the plain non-flavored Idahoans and they’re not very good. One of the grocery stores here carries #10 cans of the plain Idahoans. I considered buying the can and ziplock-bagging individual serving sizes. But then I tried the plain flavor. YUCK.

So if that big bag at Sam’s is the plain flavor, you might try buying a smaller package of plain and trying it before buying the big bag.

I buy the plain, Ziploc bag them, and flavor them myself. I always add powdered milk, but also some combination of Parmesan cheese, Butter Buds, garlic or onion powder, black bean soup mix, cilantro, powdered Alfredo sauce, bacon bits (imitation, since I don’t eat meat or poultry), gravy mix… you get the point. There’s plenty of stuff you can do with potato flakes.
