Identity theft protection

Here’s an example of what I suggested in an earlier post.

Begin signature:

  • Shaggy D.A.

The identity of this post’s sender can be verified at the following URL:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shaggy-trailforums/

If this TrailForums post doesn’t also appear there, then the real Shaggy D.A. didn’t write it.

I am new to Trail Forums. I’ve been reading for a couple of weeks but this is my first post. I think the moderators have some work to do because about half of what I read seems to be from ‘fake’ persons. It is really too bad that this is happening and destroying something very valuable.

Maybe the answer is for someone to create an exact copy of the site, call it TrailForums.net. Only difference being a formal login procedure and publicly displayed email address. Then promote the heck out of it here.

Why should I protect my identity? I know who I am and nobody else really cares. I say forget about it and let the trolls roll. Whether they have stolen or borrowed an identity or not I think all insulting and obviouly inflamatory posts should simply be ignored. It’s just like any pest ignore them and they move on.

That’s easy to say if you’re not the one who’s ID is being used for someone else’s sick amusement. Come back and tell me how it feels when it happens to you.
