My husband and I met on the LT in '05 and this summer we are planning a return to the trail. Because of work schedules, we only have 1-2 weeks. If you were to return to the trail for 7 days, which section would you re-do?

And I would perhaps spend a day atop a mountain, a day at a pond, a day at a bar seat at the Inn on Long Trail.

I’ve thought about a week or so on the LT with my wife and have two basic thoughts.
One thing I loved about the LT in the south was the opportunity to swim almost every day in the south. So one trip might start at Kelly Stand Road and head North. Or, it could start from Manchester. Either way, since its only a short trip up from the road to the Bromley Warming hut, I’d take a nice meal up with me from VT 11/30 - possibly even some wine in a back up water bottle and watch the sunset from the tower. Even better, be up there for a meteor shower. Depending on conditions, it may be better to watch the meteor shower from the mountain top - because you get some ambient city light at the top of the tower. There is no water source at the tower, but there are lots of stream crossing on the way up.
My alternate plan would be to start at Journeys end trail and head south. If you have shuttle options or don’t mind the hitches, you could just see how far you get. Otherwise, I’d aim to reach Jonesville. Jonesville would be a good destination with just a week off from work, especially if you have two weekends to work with. I’d follow the same strategy if I had two weeks to work with.
