I'm ready to talk Southbound

just my 2 cents on this one… i hiked in '97 and am planning on thru-hiking nobo again this year. ‘97 was a heavy snow year UNTIL March when a massive tropical storm knocked the snow levels down to just above average. Rain more than anything else kills snow. Soooo… all this worry and planning might be a lil’ pre-mature. As for the northern sections, who knows? maybe it will get wetter up there by the time we march thru.

As Joe Sobinosky (former PCTA guy) used to say, “you will always be faced with some sort of challenge on the PCT - if its a dry year, water is an issue; wet year - snow or the river crossings…”

Its all part of the adventure! I look forward to meeting other '05 hikers on the Trail this year. Happy Trails!

When it is all said and done, I’ll probably end up going NB as well, if for no other reason than to catch the desert flowers.

I mostly was just curious what others were thinking out there…no denying that if one were inclined, this is THE year for a SB. I’m also just flat out impressed with how far out of whack the West Coast climate has been this year, and wondering if others are equally impressed.

Come April, I look forward to following the trail and taking what it gives me. YEEE-HAWWW…it’s getting close.

Cheers all.

One thing I learned by attempting a thru hike is that the troubles you face will likely not be the ones you anticipate.

Less worry, more anticipation.

And I wouldn’t consider southbound, you’d miss out on all the fun of being part of the northbound community.

Good luck all. I wish I could go!!!
