You know, as soon as I typed that I thought the same thing. I really don’t want to list all five, becuase I’m sure I’d leave out something (it’s all good. Well, almost all).

But I will tell you another in the top 5 if someone else will guess it.

Its in the south. Multi-course vegetarian meals. Spontaneous hat parties.

Anyone know?

Wookie ---- are you talking about Elmers? Although, I don’t have any personal reference to hat parties.

Maine is not lacking cool spots to rest one’s head… but a cool spot that I liked is Northcountry Microbrew. It’s Mainely a rafter’s spot but the folks that work it are awesome, they make good beer are very friendly towards hikers, have a hot tub… Highly recommended…

Going back to the Inn at Long Trail… I lived in Vermont for a while, four or five years… never really liked the Rutland area till passing thru last year… Ended up for an extended stay at the Inn at Long Trail (had to help empty a few kegs of Guiness) and ended up staying in Rutland at Murph’s house, the brother of a bartender. Murph and his bro’ Owen are awesome… as is Patrick and Bob… It is a special place…

When you get to Stratton Mountain head over to the shelter there. From the shelter there is a side trail leading to a nearby town. Where the trail comes out is near a diner with Guiness on tap. I crawled out of there early one afternoon… yikes…

This was one of the places I most wanted to stop at during my thru-hike, but it had burned earlier and had not been re-opened yet when I passed by (I’m definitely dating myself with that one). After poking around their web site, its a place I would really like to check out the next time I’m back in VT.
