Hey, can anybody give me any information on the In At Long Trail. I am thinking some information is in the End-to-End Guide, but I don’t have one yet. So can someone tell my what kind of a place it is?

The Inn at Long Trail is an amazing place… The bartenders are incredibly awesome, really everyone is awesome. It is the kind of place one would hope to find at the end of every single day you hiked… an Irish pub with rooms. I ended up spending 10 days in the vicinity last year. I went to two Grateful Dead Shows and one ethnic festival in Rutland during an extended Guiness moment… Real guiness… yum yum… Nice rooms too

I thought the rooms were pricey and not that snazzy…
But the bar made up for it! Honestly, the Guiness was great. Poured by a tender who knew what he was doing and signed the head (foam) with a shamrock.
I knew some folks who stayed at a religious (cult?) hostel downtown but it sounded kinda sketchy to me.

I love Guiness and its been quite a few years since I through hiked the L.T. but I agree with Dave, rather pricey.
The “Hiker Special” room I was assigned left a lot to be desired. The bed springs keep me awake most of the night, but again,it’s been some time.Have a Guiness, make a party out of it.:cheers :cheers
OLD & IN THE WAY
I had fun there but it wasnt very clean. I got crabs from the bed. If I’m going to get crabs I wanna get them the fun way. Sleeping on a filthy bed is not the fun way. Pubic lice:cheers
Jungle Kat
sounds to me that this place is a place where you have some drinks and then make sure you sleep outside or away from the bed… i guess the bed might make ya a little crabby. peace out :cheers

I don’t believe Kat at all. I found it a wonderful cozy spot, nicely suited to the surroundings and loved my stay there.

I enjoyed my stay there last year. As everyone else says, the bar is hiker-friendly and cozy. The rooms are inferior to an average motel room – there is no TV, and the bathroom is tiny. Can’t beat it for convenience, though.

if you stay at the inn you can also get a free bus ride into town if you like that. they have a movie theater. i think we went to two movies while we stayed. great breakfast. complimentary if you stay a night. good stuff but watch how much you eat, could be trouble in the woods after. hi bob. remember me?

Everything is relative on the AT… To me the rooms were a shade small but they are still bigger than my tarp. I never had a problem with any bed bugs… Never even heard of that problem there. I do not watch TV so that isn’t an issue. And if I am not mistaken there is a communal TV in the lounge area. I think for the money and diffently the convience you can’t beat the Inn… Plus Owen and Bob are awesome…
If you want to put this place in perspective go stay at the motel in Glasgow, Virginia.
Honestly I find it very funny when thru-hikers talk air there disappoinment about places to stay. From my perspective, I am happy to have a motel, floor or whatever to crash on once a week. Having a restaurant nearby and an Irish pub is certainly gravy… So many hikers come to these places expecting some grand hotel on a low budget. Hey if you want to spend more money there are places all up and down the trail to do that. I have stayed at many of the finer places along the way. So many hikers are extremely rude and demanding to motel owners I am surprised to see some of these places open the next year. There was some senator hiking this last summer and threatened to close down a very popular hiker motel in Pearisburg because the owner didn’t jump when he wanted her to jump. I say relax, breath deep in the kindness people give you. Be thankful for a clean comfortable bed and remember what we do this year, next year’s class will have to pay…
as for whomever said they got lice from a bed at the Inn at Long Trail… Not knowing you but knowing the people that work there I find that hard to believe that wasn’t something you dragged in from the trail. I stayed there in 2000 and 2004 for extended stays and never heard anything like that.
Remember if you want to stay somewhere nicer and more expensive just hop on that bus and head either towards Killington or Rutland and stay at an expensive Inn or motel… plenty of choices in both directions…
Plus the commune folks in Rutland are totally cool and their restaurant is awesome. If you stop by there go eat at their place… Beautiful wood work. Also check out their bus… I saw it at one of the dead shows. Totally awesome bus…

Thanks to all of you for your input. I’ve been to their website to get the visuals and I’ve read your comments. I think I’ve got a feel for the place short of staying their. It was great to learn of the shuttle service. I didn’t see any mention of it on their website. I shall make further inquires. Did any of you have to make reservations? As of now, it’s listed as a scheduled stop on my trek.
If only for the Guiness.
:cheers

I always eat and drink at the INN. But I take the $3.00 shuttle into town. For about the same price you can stay at Comfort Inn . You have pool and hot tub, cable tv in room, plus within one mile radius you have PO, library(internet), movie, full service Hanafords Grocery, every fast food imagined and a ton of restaurants and bars. Plus a Liquor store.

This is one of the best places to stay on the entire AT. The person who said they got crabs from this place brought them there from home or more likely never have stayed at the Inn to begin with. If you have actually been there describe the bar?

I’ve been to the Inn at the Long Trail on several of my long distant hikes. If I was in a 100 mile radius of the place, I would make sure to stop by. It’s a wonderful place and a memory for sure. Plan to stop and enjoy the Vermont hospitality

The INN is definitely one of the top 5 establishments along the AT in my book. I was there several nights, after tagging along with the bar staff to a Phil & Friends show. One night I stayed at the chef’s house, who made amazing omlettes in the morning and let me use his internet, phone, etc.
If you’re out there for fancy hotels and TEE-VEE, look somewhere else. This is a place for friends, converstions, tall tales, boulders, and a perfectly chilled glass of Irish Sunshine.
Tell Patrick Wookie says hello please.
Tha Wookie
Tha Wookie, dude.
What are the other four?
I am a guy who likes a beer (or a perfectly chilled glass of Irish Sunshine) along with a tall tale amongst friends and strangers alike. I can stare into the fire with beverage in hand and nod in wonder at the story being told. I’d pull my chair a little closer, take a sip and ask, “and then what happen?” with eye wide open.
Like…I am sooooo there.
Yep, my minds made up. I’m marking the place on the map. Logging GPS coordinate (hehe). Setting my compass and countn’ the days.

I remember drinking a LOT of beer there. We were there on a weekend, there was an irish band playing, that’s all I remember about the bar EXCEPT for the guinness drafts with shamrocks drawn in foam and excellent pot roast.
Yep, the rooms are TINY and the shower was like a tube. But I didn’t complain!
