Indian Creek Trail

Not sure why I did this, but curiosity drove me to hike the suggested alternative approach to the CT today. I’ve never actually walked it, so here is the report. First, it’s way more than 4.4 miles to the CT from the trailhead off of Hwy 67 outside of Sedalia. I would say more like 5.5 at least. 70% of the walk is on a dirt road. The first mile or so is single track, but the majority is a road walk. Bring your sunblock - very exposed. Some great views of the big mountains. Lots of downed timber. The road is a constant roller, and is much more difficult than Waterton Canyon. FWIW.

There are two routes to the CT from the IC campgrounds. The East route is longer and involves the road walk. The 4.4 mile route starts from the western spur of the campground and is singletrack all the way to Lenny’s Rest. That’s the route I’ll be taking.

There is a YouTube video called walking with Fred. He starts at the IC TH and walks up to lennys rest. It seemed mice and no roads. I will be starting next Saturday.

The following web page has info and a link to map and description of Indian Creek Trail alternative access to CT Segment 1:

Map shows that the Indian Creek Trail is a loop and you could reach the CT two ways. Shortest route is the “west leg” that is described in text on page 2 of the map file. Hope this helps eliminate any confusion.

There must be a different trailhead than the one I chose last week? I parked in the lot with the horse trailers, and headed up the “Indian Creek trailhead”. It was single track for about a mile, and then dumped out on the road. the only other single track I saw was the “Steven’s Gulch” trail to the left. Is there another trailhead outside of Sedalia? I must be confused here. Advise.

Drove back out to Sedalia today and quickly discoverd my error. You were correct, On Track. I just assumed it was the trailhead right off the main parking lot.

For CT Thrus starting at the Indian Creek trailhead >> make sure that you drive to the very Western edge of the parking lot. You will need to drive through a metal gate to get to the far western side. Two simple signs that you are on the correct trail: 1) someone has attached a CT blaze on the West trailhead sign, and it is not on the East one, and 2) the West trail has a fairly level first 100 yards, where the East trail is immediately uphill with switchbacks.
