Hi all, looking to hike the trail this summer. Trying to find the best info for resupplies. What places are the best, what kind of mileage are we looking at?? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

www.whiteblaze.net

Use the search function. I know for fact that there is a resupply article by Baltimore Jack.

Should’ve noticed you were looking at the CT. There still might be some good info there though. Sorry bout that.

Get the Colorado Trail guidebook. It lists mileages to nearest towns. There are no towns on the trail - you have to hitch. (or in the case of Breckenridge - Frisco, take a free bus)

Here you go

http://www.pmags.com/joomla1516/index.php/ramblings/20-backpacking-and-hiking-documents/23-colorado-trail-info

also buy the data book its all you really need to hike the trail.

The guide book is nice but to heavy to care with you and the data book did such a good job that you don’t need the bigger one. But its nice to look at the pretty pictures.

Brekenridge-Frisco are easy to get into: But stop is right on the trail. Just wait 15 minutes and then pick where you want to stay.

Ledville is a very easy hitch at the Mt Elbert trailhead off the CT. The data book said it was only about 6 miles walk I believe. It is more like 10. But like I said easy hitch. Taxi company in town will come pick you up at the trailhead and take you back for like 15 dollars.

Buana Vista is about 6 miles off the trail.

Salida is 13+ off the trail but most people stop there for a 0

Silverton is about 5 miles of the trail.

Then finish.

wow major spelling issues.

But stop should have been bus stop.

Also forgot about Twin city it is about 1 mile off the trail between Ledville and Buana Vista. Not much there but if you need a break go for it.

I did Denver to Salida this past summer. I sent resupply packages to Jefferson, Copper Mt. Ski Area, and Twin Lakes.

At Jefferson, I mailed package to the post office. Be ware that the zip code listed in the pocket guide is wrong - two numbers are transposed. The PO is in the local store. If you are nice to the people at the counter, they will give you your package even if the PO is closed.

At Copper Mt. Ski area, I made reservations to stay overnight, so I just sent my package by UPS to the registration desk. I debated Breckenridge vs. Copper Mt. for resupply, but if you resupply at Breckenridge you are going over the ten mile range with a fully loaded pack. If you resupply at Copper Mt. your pack is almost empty going over the ten mile range. I chose the latter.

Twin Lakes is about 1.5 miles from the trail crossing. It was an easy 20 min. walk. Hitching should be easy as the road has good sight distances with a shoulder for vehicles to pull off on. I sent my package to the Twin Lakes Road House via UPS, but the PO is right next door.

I ended at Salida. It was a hard (45 min.) hitch from the trail crossing into town. The problem is that it is on a downhill grade with limited shoulder. It almost has to be a single car so they can see you and slow down in time to pull off in a little area where a side road branches off.

On a typical day I hiked 15 miles if I was hiking all day. I am used to backpacking in New England and the CT is easier than N.E., so I was making more miles per day than I planned.

Have a great trip.

Thanks for the kinds words…

I totally overhauled the doc.

Once my DNS records update and the update of my website is complete, the article will have a different URL. There was a slight hiccup with the xfer…but should be early next week.

Needless to say with the new resources, changes in transit (The Silverton stop is no more since this past summer) and the Waterton canyon closure, there is quite a bit info updated/added since last year.

It will still be at PMags.com…just a lot easier to use.

As always, any new info or updated info, feel free to give me a shout!
