I happen to have a pronation and wondering what people with this type of foot do regarding insoles. I used the dark green super feet insoles but my heal started throbbing constantly. What are some other solutions?

Superfeet require a break-in period. Your feet are not accustomed to that much support and that may be the issue. Unless you have been using them a while, this could be normal. Once you use Superfeet, its quite hard to hike with out them. If you have a real medical issue, then a podiatrist (foot dr) may be worth it.

My wife has a deformity in her left foot from a childhood accident and resulting scar tissue. She got some orthotics to work with her hiking shoes; waterproof glues so they don’t some apart.
I also have heavy pronation and use a high arched insert form Spenco. I also use a trail runner but one rated for + pronation support, like a good running shoe. It seems to work well.
I’d hit the sports doctor and see what he/she has to say. Don’t forget to push the sport we/you do. It’s far different than running with the added pack weigh and the average doctor may not be sure what to do.

superfeet do recommend that you gradualy brake your feet into them. 1 hour the first day, 2 hours the second day, and so on. if you have given them a fair try and it has been less than 60 days, they will give you your money back.

I had been a distance runner for years prior to my 05 thruhike and used orthodics for running. They were great for running but the heel cup was too high for hiking which messed my heel up and they also came apart because of getting wet so often. Must have been the wrong glue. Switched to superfeet and that worked for me. Orthodics are probably the best solution but hiking puts different requirements on them. Make sure the provider knows the difference. Check the provider’s warranty. They are very expensive and I basically had to trash mine.

Personally I call them Stupid Feet - I tried superfeet on my thru hike, and Yes, I did the ‘break in period’ like I was instructed. I developed all sorts of back pain, knee pain and shoulder pain, my daily milage started dropping to the point I couldn’t walk more than 6 - 8 miles (thats down from 15 -20 day). It almost knocked me off the trail, Finally I ditched the stupid feet, took a week off to let my knees recover and went back to the insoles I was using (sorry, the name is all worn off them ) they are thick green rubbery insoles I got at REI. I"ve been a nurse for 30+ yrs, I need a little more cushion to walk on than super feet.
