I’ve been reading about the International A.T., i read a journal about a couple that hiked it, looks interesting, different terrain, and the sorts but i was just wondering if anyone has hiked any of this, and if u think someday it will someday be looked as “the” A.T. and not an extension of the A.T., tell me what y’all think

This is a good forum for your question. However, to find the real answer vote with your feet.

This Euro IAT thing is ridiculous. Just seeing the word “Appalachian” along signs in Ireland, Wales, etc. seems defamatory all around. The Appalachian Trail originally went international because the Appalachian mountain chain does likewise. But Canada is where the mountain range begins or ends. It does not continue into Europe under the same name, and the fact that the two continents where connected during Pangaea hundreds of millions of years ago is an absurd justification to stamp the Appalachian moniker on two continents separated by thousands of miles of ocean. It’s like if they were to rename the Amazon rain forest and call it the Congo, because at one time in the distant past South American and Africa were connected as a single belt of forest. I just think the IAT concept is a pandora’s box to begin with, and probably should have never used that name from the get-go.
