Into the Wild- The Movie

Information I took from the CMC Newsletter. Before Jon Krakauer wrote Into Thin Air - about the Mt. Everest disaster - he wrote Into the Wild. Now, eleven years later, Sean Penn is making a movie out of the book, with the permission of the family. Into the Wild is the story of 22-year-old Chris McCandless, who donated his trust fund, cut ties with his parents and took off on an adventure to Alaska. He was unprepared for the wilds of Alaska and … I won’t spoil it for you. Will the movie make a hero out of him?

Whatever became of making a movie of ‘A Walk in the Woods’?

…He was unprepared for the wilds of Alaska and…he friggin froze to death. End of movie.

Timmy Treadwell

He didn’t freeze… He starved. Get your facts strait if you’re going to talk trash.
Try reading the book.

Read part of it. Boring. He starved. Too bad.

I’ll bet he was friends with Timmothy Treadwell. Both effectively committed suicide. Only difference was, by being eaten, Treadwell was incorporated into the spirit of a grizzly and will carry that with him into future lifetimes. McCandless, by starving to death, will carry the spirit of an empty stomach into future lives. Bet he reincarnates as a ******.

What is it with this board? A s s is a bad word? Why was dumbass not censored but f-a-t-@-s-s was? Weird.

While I do not possess the eloquence and keen understanding of the previous poster, I identified with Chris McCandless and found the book to be quite good. McCandless was intelligent and capable, he simply made an understandable error, when the Alaskan wilderness usually allows none. His situation was no exception. I hope the movie does it justice.

he ate some type of berry that was out of season. the berry speeds up the starvation process if it is eaten out of season. mcandles being already thin as a rail from a low protein/fat diet was in trouble the miniute he started down this certain path. there are many twists and turns when reading that book. i reccomend it to any1…peace out, nitewalker

I agree. I think the book was great. Someone that didn’t like the direction he was heading and wanted to make a change. Sold everything he had, gave away his trust fund, gave up a promising career and headed off to find himself. Maybe he had some self concerns and doubts, but don’t we all. McCandless’ story is one that ended tragically. Sometimes young men do take the wrong turn. He is no hero, but his story should be heard.

It was a seed that he ate that did a lot to do him in. It wasn’t that alone, though. Toward the end, he even suspected that it was the seeds (the roots of this plant were edible, but the stem and seeds hold some toxicity after a certain point in the growing season).

The book is quite good and a very quick read. It’s very easy to follow and Krakauer is a fine writer. McCandless just screwed up. Lots of very silly choices, but the guy basically had a good heart. I’m sure his family still grieves.
