Does anyone have current information about plans for reopening Iron Master's Hostel in Pa. I know it was closed but is there anything certain about its reopening this summer? Are there other mail drop options at in Pine Furnace area (if Iron Masters is not open by May of this year)? Thanks for any guidance.

Theres a small grocery/general store there for snacks and ice cream, and you could get a box in boiling springs a little bit up the trail.

According to two different websites, it is to reopen in "Spring 2011" -- don't know if that is being delayed or not.

I don't know the status of The Iron Masters Hostel for 2011 but here is some resupply info that may help.

There is a decent deli just north of Pine Grove Furnace and .2 from the trail named Green Mountain Store PA 34 Hunters Run Road (mile 1102.2 AT Guide). It is a little store but it had a number of things for a short term resupply. The trail goes along a railroad track then comes out on Rt 34 then turns left, the store is .2 to the right.

Thanks for the information. I section hiked the At starting in 2001 after my 60th birthday and finishing in 2004. I am now working my way back to Katathan have gotten back a road 10 miles from the Md./Pa.line. I hope to do a big chunk of Pa. in late May/early June, trying out my two new knees which I had replaced in August and December of 2010. I remembered fondly my stay at Iron Master's. I did receive this information from Iron Master's Inn which is good news for the AT community. It will be reopening, though some of the details of the services available will be a work in progress. I'm sure this news will soon reach the hiker handbooks as well:

"Glad you got in touch! We are planning on having a “soft” opening April 1st with a ribbon-cutting on May 6th. We have a number of reservations already for April. We will have 28 beds available - two rooms with 7 bunk beds. The remainder of the building will be used for programming. I’m not sure when the laundry facilities will be available but we are offering overnights at $25 per night and that includes pasta the evening of arrival and waffles, juice and coffee on the morning of departure. Reservations can be made by e-mailing ironmasterspinegrove@gmail.com. You can also keep-up with the mansion on FaceBook as well as on our website www.centralpaconservancy.org

The address for resupply is:

Hiker’s Name & Arrival Date
Ironmaster’s Mansion
1212 Pine Grove Rd.
Gardners, PA 17324

Happy trails!"

Hope to see some of you on the AT in May.
