Itchy itchy duct tape?

howdy. for years now, like many, i've been using duct tape as a tried and true blister remedy/ protection agent. recently, i've developed a rash (after removing it) that itches (akin to poison ivy). in fact, i initially suspected it WAS ivy, since it surfaced around the ankle region and began to spread. this was during the fall when it all started. i've since discovered the tape to be the culprit. (i stopped using it altogether and stopped applying topical ointments-- all cleared up quickly). i can't recall if it's a different brand, or a different grade of duct, but man, it ain't ducky. anyone else have a similar encounter? could it be that i'm developing an allergy to this (in accordance with age) or perhaps the change in the brand of tape itself? mucho gracias.

You should try using a product called hypoflex (sp) that is used in doctors offices. It sticks better then duct tape and is non allergic.

I'm not a doc but it sounds like contact dermititis. Try different brands of tape see if you get better results.

I've replaced duct tape with leukotape as my foot wrap of choice. Sticks better, performs better, all around better.

You can buy it online (Amazon.com for example).

I recall hearing ages ago that allergies can come and go or develop overtime…not sure if that is true or a wive’s tale.

Also, like the guy above said, sounds like contact dermatitus (a rash born from rubbing against some material, like the tag on the band of underwear.

One option that can be done is to use some TP as underwrap, like the athletic trainers use when taping up athletes. I did this while nursing my heels being torn up with new boots and never had problems of tape residue. Was able to cut off the "cast" at night to let the skin dry and toughen up, then reattach next day w/minimal usage of new tape.
