This would be a good time to take a zero in a town with a good restaurant and a laundermat. For firsthand information on Hurricane Ivan see the AT-L@Backcountry.net and understand that this is a terrifying storm but it will pass as all storms do. Still, there will be evidence of it on the trail; however, there will be an abundance of water (but it should be treated).

I was in the process of booking my flight to return to the trail to finish the last 300 miles I lack of my thru hike, when Ivan did a easterly jog and hit the small towns close to me in Northwest Florida. After two days of trying to contact family there to no avail,I finally got through to the local lumber yard.It is terrible and will be weeks without electricity. So…I am flying home and the remaining 300 miles of the trail will have to wait until next year. I do not even know if I have a house left or not.The months on the trail have taught me the things that are really important in life. Now maybe I can go home and teach some neighbors how to survive, yes even cook without electricity.
