Never one to be scared off by flash flood warnings, my buddy and I did a section hike from High Point State Park to the NY State line this weekend. First, sections of the trail were like streams, then intermittent streams were calf-deep raging torrents. A knee-deep stream crossing followed. Several of the bridges south of Unionville had been submerged overnight Friday based on the debris left on the deck. At the northern end of the Pochuck boardwalk, there was a nice 8" deep ‘puddle’ for 50 yards. But the best one of them all was the crossing of the Wawayanda Creek. The puncheon on either side of the bridge were submerged to the point that it was a thigh-deep crossing just to get to the bridge.
Surprisingly, the section from Route 94 to the State Line Trail wasn’t bad at all. Maybe all of the run-off had drained by the time we passed through yesterday afternoon.
