Just wanted to inform the hiking community that my father, Fred Sloan - Jack Daniels, passed away on Thursday December 3rd. A great hiking partner, a good friend, and the most wonderful father one could ever hope for.

Jym, I am sorry to hear of Jack Daniels passing. Happy Feet and I have fond memories of Jack Daniels, you and Rain Queen in Maine. The day Fred crossed the Kennebec after you and Rain Queen. The water rose so fast and we thought he was in serious trouble. I especially remember the evening at East Carry Pond when you guys hiked by our tent on the beach of the pond.
The little time we knew Fred we grew fond of him. His battle with ticks/lymes and a determination to stay the course resonated with us.
I know he is now hiking somewhere that is full of great adventures.

Jym Bean,
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. Tumbleweed and I have wonderful memories of you, Rain Queen and your Dad. You were moving so quickly in the 100 mile wilderness!!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones during this difficult time.

We have many memories of hiking around you, Rain Queen, and your Dad in 2001 on the AT. We were sorry to hear of your loss. We remember your great stealth campsites well off the trail, wonderful father-son relationship, and good times chatting as we made the miles toward Maine. All the best to you and Rain Queen.
