I’m new to trail hiking and thought I’d quitely read your posts to get my questions answered. Never did I realize that your posts would bring more questions.
My youth camping experience was sleeping bag on bare ground, no tent, cook over the fire, make noise to scare the bears away. All your equipment names boggle my mind. Could someone tell me what a pepsi stove and a rain skirt are?

"Could someone tell me what a pepsi stove and a rain skirt are? "

A “pepsi stove” is an alcohol burning stove made from a couple of soda cans…aka: soda can stove. You can see a bunch of different versions in several places on the net.

a “rain skirt” as I know it is literally a skirt you make by cutting open the bottom of a large plastic bag, the tuck it into the waist band of your shorts or pants to help keep them dry, but still allow some air circulation underneath.

You are embarking on a research project like no other. Some 6 years ago I had the same questions and I still have questions. Keep reading. Look at the Caldera Cone Stove, an alcohol stove (pepsi can) with windscreen, in antigravitygear.com. Search the internet by typing in alcohol stove. Continue to read journals and questions in trailjournals.com. Take Backpacker Magazine. In March they publish lists of all of the backpacking equipment known to man and outer space aliens. Then you will have even more questions. I too am glad to know what a rain skirt is. Sounds like a good idea.
