Why are there so many people telling others what they think is right on here? It makes me not want to hit the AT.

The attitudes expressed and exposed on this forum are nothing like what you find out on the trail. On the trail, folks don’t talk so much smack, lest they get a bad reputation and/or get their ass kicked. The in-person trail community is probably the finest group of people you’ll meet anywhere.

Robbie,
Think of those that are a little nasty as ill-dealing with all the pent-up energy that they’d otherwise spend hiking  .It use to tick me off too but is it really worth not following your dream to hike just because of a few troubled e-souls?! Happy New Year and let us know when you will start your hike.

and it works. The best way to deal with trolls is not to feed them. You feed them by replying to their posts, especially if you express any annoyance, anger or hurt feelings in your reply.

Ignore the post, and click report to moderator. Then reply to the given topic if you have something to add to it.

There’s a percentage of braying boors. Remember, this is an anonymous and free-of-charge venue for venting. Carry your frypan, bacon and (white gasp) Optimus 8R stove, and have a good time in the outdoors. Stealth camp every night! We go out there for freedom. Bring what you want, go where you want, heed the comments that make sense to you and chuckle at the pontification of the others. Yee Hah! we’re free, footloose, and OUTSIDE!

environmental and social responsibility as you travel. Don’t pee in the spring. Try not to make any bough beds. Don’t have your way with the trail town’s sons, daughters, pets, life partners, or spouses without permission. Don’t feed the Rangers. Share your bacon. Don’t snore.
Lend me your earplugs for a week or so, if I need them. I’m an ultra-lighter; I left mine in my Cadillac back at the trailhead.

There was no Katz.

People only tell of thier methods and experiences. If the question is asked then many answers will be givin. I feel that most of the people (95%) are just trying to help. Oh sorry, there I go with my opinion again.

Hate to break it to you, but I just came back from the mountains and have concluded that almost everyone here and on that other board is a LOSER. And fully 1/3 of you keyboard jocks will never hike again.

We will hike again. That’s the plain truth.

Snow Stomp, aren’t you “on” here, and haven’t you been “on” the other board? I suppose that means we can add you to the LOSER group. Welcome home, friend.

I know…I bit on the troll…I’m also a LOSER…and a dumb-dumb.

Where what you like.

Gee, when I came of the trail. I was refreashed and felt if I had accomplished something great. I didnt feel however “better than everyone else” If people critisize this site why would they want to be on it. Oh yeah, maybe thier LOSERS.
