JMT - Good place to start in middle?

Hello, I would like to section hike the JMT, first starting somewhere in the middle and hiking north to Yosemite. What would be a good place to start, taking into account nearby towns, transportation to trailheads, etc? Would VVR be a good option?

You could start at Reds Meadow which is a short bus ride from Mammoth and it lets you resupply at VVR and MTR so you can start with light loads plus the scenery right off the bat is beautiful. Although I guess you can say that about every part of the JMT. VVR is hard to get to from what I am told but I think it was a three day walk from Red’s for me and I an a pretty slow hiker.

I’d consider starting from the Bishop Pass trail. It’s a little closer to the mid-point, a lovely side trail worth the few extra miles, and you still have all the options in front of you for short resupply, including mailing a package to Mono Hot Springs.
