Jo Mary Camp Ground

I need to finish the last 200 miles of my hike that I started last year. I will have a support person helping me through Maine at certain points along the way. We were looking up campgrounds in the area and found the Jo Mary Campground, but when I called, I got a message that the phone was disconnected. Does anyone know if they are still an up and functioning campground or any other info that might be helpful, as in other campgrounds in the area of the 100 mile wilderness?

The trail crossing at Jo Mary Road has lots of tent space and water. There is a fee to use the road. The better alternative is the AT Lodge in Millinocket. Great stop and good people. (AT alumni) Good luck

I’m sure they’re a seasonal business, far as I know they were running last year. I wouldn’t count on getting an answer til at least May, that’s typically when campgrounds in Maine start to open again. There is camping in the Gulf Hagas area down the KI road, run by North Maine Woods. Primitive sites off the road but very pretty. Are you looking for yourself or your support person?

I am looking for a place for my support person so would like a bigger campground. Thanks, I will wait until the end of May and try again. I can’t wait to get back on the trail but Maine was very hard the first two days for me even though I had just walked almost 2000 milesjavascript:smile(’:girl’)

We stayed at Jo Mary Campground for a few days and day hiked that area of the AT in 2004. (The Maine Gazetteer was essential to our knowing where we were going on the logging roads.) We were quite happy with the place. Showers, washing machine/dryer, and snack bar were available. Pre-season we had to make reservations by mail by sending a check to hold a place.
