That link brought up a blank page. What issue of the Free Press did that come from? I can check the status of that store, as I live only a few miles from it.

I did a search on the Burlington Free Press site and found the story. I don’t know if this link will work for you.
My last name is Jones. In 1970, 2 friends hiked from Canada to beyond Bromley Mt. by themselves, at the ages of 15 and 16. They were VERY mad at me for a disastrous equipment recommendation. They motivated themselves, in part, by reminding each other that
"Jonesville was the low point of the Long Trail".
(Altitudinally speaking)
They also called the Guide Book, the “Lies Book”.
They completed their End-to-End LT with this hike.
The Long Trail used to go through the store, I believe!
