I realize that early hiking season travel is difficult to predict…but I’d be interested to know what others might say about an early start to the southern section of the trail. Any thoughts?
It might be feasible this year. It has been dry in that area this winter/spring. Of course, it could all change with a single heavy storm.
Also you can check out the reports for 14ers along the route.
Also keep an eye on the CT Facebook group.
“Ron Davis: I would add that 20-28 are “passable” if you don’t mind a few snowfields here and there. Probably 90%+ of 20-28 are bone dry. A few snowfields in the snow prone areas.”
Sounds like you could do Durango - Silverton now.
