July snow condition-Snoq-CA

I want to go from either Stevens Pass (how to get there from Seattle?) or Snoqualmie Pass to CA between approx 7/1-25.

Would we be slogging thru snow the whole time and how are creek conditions/bridges?

Also do you know how to get to Stevens Pass from Seattle? I don’t think we’ll have enough time to start at Snoqualmie. If we did start at Snoq (it looks gorgeous), is there a way to get back to Seattle from Rainy Pass Hwy 20?
Thanks!! -Bon

This year has been a very high snow year in that area and you will see a tons probably in July. We hike thru in 02 on an average yr and saw quite a bit but it did lessen around Stevens…

Hey Bon,

Check out www.postholer.com for the latest snow depth info. It appears that this year would be a nightmare to try what you’re attempting to do in your time frame - unless you love slogging through tons of snow & dealing with route-finding issues… According to the postholer site, there are parts of OR with well over 200 % higher snow levels than normal. If I were you, I would delay the trip for at least a month or hike a different section of the PCT.

Happy Trails!

Bon,
It is hard to say this far out but the others are correct when they say lots of snow. I haven’t checked today but I have a feeling it is snowing today on the pass. I did some of that area with zero snow but it was 2 years ago and we had no winter that year.

As far as your trip to either pass from Seattle. Stevens would be harder as less people go over that pass but either one is about the same distance.

Good luck

Weather is so unpredictable these days - so its definitely possible that there could be a very warm Spring with a huge snow melt-off. Even though it seems unlikely, maybe all that snow will melt by July 1st?

Yep, Yappy you are right. I woke up today in Walla Walla with an inch of snow on the ground (this is in the low country) Last day of the ski season is today so the Bash should be great. Not sure how much the got at the pass but if this is any indication I bet they got 6-8 inches.
I disagree with freebird however…weather has always been unpredictable. Momma is going to do what momma wants to do.

The Cascades do have 200% normal snow pack this year, and yes, it dumped again over the past day or so, and will continue for a few days. But I watch the snowmelt (on the webcam all the time in the spring. Early July, shouldn’t be a problem, even this year, but you will see snow. For a better idea, just view their webcam at Stevenspass dot com Stevens base elev is 4000 feet and the top of the lift you will see is over 5000.
