Hey all,

I’m looking for some advice on where to start on the PCT if I jump on in the middle of June. I am planning to hike the rest of the trail to Manning Park and then coming back to finish the desert section in the fall. Although I have done my research, I am still not that familiar with the PCT and would benefit greatly from those of you who have done it or live near the trail. Many thanks.

One very reasonable place to start on June 15 would be Mojave.

  1. You should be able to get there on public transit.

  2. You’ll have 150 miles or so to break your body in before the Sierra.

  3. You’ll get to Kennedy Meadows in late-ish June, so snow might be a little better and fords (maybe) a bit easier.
