Anyone’s opinion on spots that I shouldn’t miss along the trail would be much appreciated!
One I heard of was Split Mtn. 14K peak just South of Mather Pass. I heard it was only a 2,500 foot class 2 walk to the summit and only a mile off the trail. I’m gonna throw it in for the view! Heard it was one of the best in the Sierras
Any Must See Locations?
About 15 miles east of SNP, the guy who played “Cooter” on the “Dukes of Hazard” runs a museum of Dukes mementos. The highlight is the ‘General Lee’ car.
They let me get in, but wouldn’t let me drive it.
But the lady working there says that sometimes on the weekends, cooter will take little kids for rides on their birthday.
so maybe i’ll go back.

hmm…maybe i should’ve read more carefully and realized i was on a PCT list, not the AT. Oh well - in that case it’s about 3,000 miles to the east.

Some good ones on the north end of the trail include Half Dome and Cloud’s Rest, Cathedral Peak and the Echo Peaks (both have 4th class routes, a short detour east of the trail, although it would cause you to miss the Cathedral Lakes, which are great), and Banner Peak. I have a longer list around somewhere that I made last year, but I can’t find it right now …
