Just for laughs

…I periodically check the weather conditions on top of Mt. Washington via their website. As of 3:00 this afternoon (July 10), it was 35 degrees F with sustained winds of 51 mph and a wind chill of 20 degrees F. The forcast is for ice fog with substantial ice accumulation starting later today and continuing through tomorrow night.

There’s nothing like a summer day in the mountains, eh?

People have died on that mountain every month of the year. It can snow and ice any day of the year. That’s why you need to be prepared for adverse weather up there. Take it seriously.

I agree with you, Peaks. That is why I made the post above. I get nervous that some NOBOs will get jaded after spending weeks of sweating their way through the rocks, mosquitos, heat and humidity of the low elevations in the mid-Atlantic and forget just how dangerous the Whites can be. Hopefully, news of wind chills in the teens, freezing rain and ice fog in mid-July will be a sufficient reminder.
