Katadyn Mini works and more

I bought a PUR filter on my GA TN section hike in 2001. It did the job very well (i did’nt get sick). However, I’m wondering about the real differences between the paper filter and a ceramic filter?? I know that you have to be a bit more careful with the PUR filter in cold weather. I think it’s a wee bit heavier than the Mini works. I’m thinking ceramic because i am under the illusion that i need’nt replace the ceramic filter if i clean it and look after it. Has anyone used this filter on a thru hike??

It only cost’s £70 (about $100) which is cheaper than the MSR filters.

And another thing…they approved my Visa. Wahooo!!!

Check the flow rate. Most thru-hikers that filter prefer the Pur (Katadyn) hiker filter becasue it pumps much faster than others.

But, many ultralighters go the chemical route. It’s a trade off. Lighter and smaller, but you need to wait before drinking. So, to compensate, carry extra water.
