Has anybody hiked Barr trail on Pikes Peak and also the AT?? I was curious if the elevation gain and trails were similar. For that matter, I guess most of the climbs on the AT. Thanks.

TTG…actually, the reason for the question, is that I live here in Manitou Springs. I have hiked Barr trail numerous times as well as Williams Canyon and Waldo and Red Mountain. The elevation gain on Barr trail and Red Mountain trail is intense. So I figured if the AT is anything like that or less, then it should be a walk in the park!! :boy On another note, what’s your take on the condition of the Peak?? I myself am a bit worried of the fire danger. Coming down into Barr camp from Elk Park last year saw a few overniters with pretty large campfires. That’s kinda scary. As the ole Indian used to say: white man not smart, build big fire, sit long ways back, roast one side freeze other. Indian build small fire, sit close keep warm all around.
And also just wanted to say, you guys have the best place to live!!

:girl I just love Manitou! It’s a neat little town.
The fire danger is high,we’re looking for a heavy fire season. We had a 2 acre fire last monthe near Mueller SP.Campers left their campfire and all there stuff and went for a hike!
That old indian saying about the fires is really familar,we have preached that to our kidsentire lives, your the only other person that I have ever heard say it.
Come up and see us! TTG

Ahhhh,I would love to!! But alas, I am getting on the bus this Friday to go to Georgia. And right now is a last minute scramble to get stuff in storage, arrange rides e.t.c…I’ll be coming back to Manitou, so I’ll give ya a shout then. Look for me in trailjournals, I’ll be keeping a trip journal on there. I plan on taking tons of pics, and then combining my journal into maybe a book with the pics…or just maybe a pictorial book on the AT?? We’ll see.
