I’m going to have access to a car before I start the JMT SOBO. Has anyone stashed food for a resupply up there anywhere. I know there are some bear lockers there at the parking lot, what’s the chance the food would be there 187 miles later.

My brother and I stashed some bear cans about 1/2 way between Kearsarge and the JMT I think it was about 7 miles from the trail head. We didnt use the bear locker but simply hid the cans off trail taking careful note of where we hid them. Its a lot of extra time and work but it did have the added benefit of being able to leave our garbage in one of the bear cans which we later picked up.
I’m told that folks used to stash food in nearby bear lockers but the rangers have pretty much stopped allowing this due to too much food being left behind and hikers not having enough room to put their food in the locker when they were actaully camping nearby.
Maybe someone else has more up to date info on this.
