Keeping mice out of your food bag

I am dreaming of one day hiking part of the trail. I have several questions but my main one is:

How do you keep mice out of your food bag? even while it is hung from the bears? Seems the critters should be able to climb down the rope, chew and have a feast on your food

Take a empty tuna can, poke hole thru the center, run your bear bag rope thru and tie the can off about a foot above end of rope, where you would hang food bag. Theory is mouse cant get around can to continue journey down to food bag. If it tries it falls off. Hence the Mice Acrobatics in the shelter at night

Smear peanut butter on your friends food bag, no mice on yours, hehe.:tongue Works best if you put in on the rope at the can so they chew thru it. Shawn got a food bag in the head one night…I had nothing to do with it. X

An alternative to a tuna can is a CD. They’re light, smooth and have nothing a mouse can grab onto, and wider than a tuna can. I carry one in me pack.

Charlie…That is such a good idea! Thanks for sharing! Now I know what to do with those computer things which keep coming in the mail…

Di, mice don’t like AOL, prob why they work so well. My multi tool for mice is the lid to my pot. It’s just an aluminum disc I made, 8" round with a small hole for the line when no other line is in the shelter to hang from. Doubles as our fajita browner and pot lid. Larger than a tuna can by far.
