Has anyone used this backpack? A local sporting goods store is closing and is offering a really good deal on this pack. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions. Thanks.

Kelty makes some good quality packs. If you can get a good deal on it, I’d go for it. Don’t think you’ll go wrong buying a Kelty.

See you out there. :cheers

I have that pack, and have once again switch backed to it. I was going to go with the GoLite Speed, and did, and before I even left for my thru hike, I noticed a small place that never made the sewing machine, so it would have teared the first day out.

I did over 250 miles in the Kelty RedCloud 5400 and it never let me down. It at one time felt like it owned me. It is made of tough stuff. It takes breaking in just like new trail shoes. I own it now, throw it down and use it for a bench seat and it works wonders for holding bulky gear. The capacity is a tad large, which means you have to think before you walk into the woods. You could carry more than you want or need to in that pack.

I am carrying it again and I guess I will stick with it. I paid 149 bucks about 2 years ago for this pack, anything close or less than that is fabulous.

They no longer make this pack, but it serves me great! It was modeled after the following pack which is the absolute lightest pack around http://www.epinions.com/otdr-Backpacks-Internal-Kelty_Enlighten-Vapor_45.

The Flight however has the same modular design that allows me to adjust how much pack I need for the particular trip I am on.

I think they made a new design called the Kelty Satori, but it’s heaver than the flight.

Search around and you will find them. Just make sure you bring a load of gear with you and test out the pack BEFORE YOU BUY IT fully loaded to make sure it fits correctly. Don’t expect the employees at Dick’s to be too helpful with this.

Thanks for the reviews. This pack is priced at $150, but is being offered at 20% off. It sounds like from the advice given that would be a great deal.

Kelty Continental Divide Internal Frame 5,300 cu. in Backpack

They have several other Kelty’s also. Again, you won’t get the expert help you would get like at a REI or specialized outfitter but it is a great price.

I have the Kelty Cloud 6500, great pack… very light. I used it on the Colordao Trail. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the lack of back support, meaning it could be a bit awkard at times.

If you have your heart set on that pack, try this place out: www.beprepared.com I’ve bought several things from them and they ship promptly. They have the 5400 for $109.99 and the 6400 for $179.00. www.Campmor.com is advertising the 5400 for $99.97. Don’t know what price you’re getting where you’re looking but, take 007’s advice and at least try it out before you buy. Good luck.

I have this pack and like it much more than my slightly larger Gregory. Look on Sierra Trading Post for it, that is where I got mine and got a heck of a deal!

My friends step-son bought one off Sierratradingpost.com for $99 for this weekends hiking trip. Looks like a good pack, if a bit on the big side. If you don’t need that big of a pack, you may want to look at the Kelty Tornado 4900 on there too…
