Does anyone who knows the area know a good way to get into Kennedy Meadows by car? Most of the maps I’ve found aren’t that helpful. Specifically, coming up I-5 from around Frazier Park, it seems out of the way to go all the way over to the 14/395, plus the road up to Kennedy Meadows that way seems a bit treacherous… is there another way?

This is a case where the map may be deceiving. Shorter isn’t necessarily faster. To get there from Frazier Park I’d take I-5S to 138E to 14N to 395N and a LT at the turnoff near Pearsonville. The road to KM from 395 (9 Mile Canyon)is paved and ok if you pay attention. Folks commute from KM to Ridgecrest every day. It’s a longer drive, but pretty much 65+ mph most of the way (except 9 mile). Going through Isabella or Porterville involves a lot of 2 lane very winding roads involving slow sharing with your new best friends in motor homes.
