A man has been indicted for the murder of two women hikers who were killed in the Shenandoah National Park near the Appalachian Trail in 1996. This case affected the hiker community in a great way at the time. Hopefully, the families of the victims may at last find closure to this tragedy.

check out this link to today’s Boston Globe article. Perhaps it will affect more than the AT Community.

Weren’t there two other gay women shot and killed on the AT in PA by some deranged nutcase who hated women?

I am having a tough time understanding why someone would go off into the woods, stalk innocent people, and then do something this ugly.

A common thread - these killings, including the one on Mt. Washington last year, happened in locations/shelters near roads offering car access. It might be safer to choose campsites/shelters a mile or more from the road.
