Kincora at Dennis Cove Rd

Just wanted to say that I stayed at the Kincora hostel May 8 and 9 and wanted to say is one of the nicest guys you could meet. It is hard to believe how much he and Pat, his wife, does for hikers and for so little. Recommend a stay there if you pass through and suggest leaving more than $4.00 for a donation. I stayed two nights, took a trip into town for supplies, slackpacked 9 miles, and he dropped me off in Johnson City. Not once did he ask for a penny! How many hostel owners would do all that? Several times people asked for fuel for there stoves and he has it there for free if you need it. Plus he does a LOT of work on the trail throughout the year. I admit Laurel Creek might offer some things Bob doesn’t but check out Kincora first before you go there. Laurel Creek is all about making money off hikers. Bob is all about helping hikers, though please don’t take advantage of his generosity and ruin it for future thru-hikers.

I’ll second Rerun’s comments. I enjoyed my stay at Kincora. However, I didn’t want to impose, so I walked over to Laurel Creek Campground for dinner and breakfast. Laurel Creek looked good also. If I knew that Laurel Creek stocked the supplies they did, I would have resupplied there rather than do a mail-drop at Kincora.

It seems like there are 2 good hostels at Dennis Cove Road. Wouldn’t it be nice if one of them moved elsewhere where there isn’t a good hostel, like Manchester Center.

I opted to stay at Laurel Creek Campground in April because Kincora was so crowded. Yes there is some expense involved but the service was friendly and accomodating. This year it was run by Fausa…a former thru-hiker. After a miserable day of hiking north over a record number of PUDS, Laurel Creek was a great hostel that I would highly recommend.
