Ratman and I are planning a clean up weekend as a surprise for Bob at kincora for all that he has done for all the hikers. Such as maintaining the trail, the hostel, the shuttles, etc. He has done so much for the hiker community that we would like to give back to him. …there’s been an idea for the hostel floor kind of floating around in my head for a while…bob’s old shag rug has about seen its better days…of course we’d have to okay it with him, but what if the old carpet were removed and a “new” (and “unique”) rug supplied to take its place : a rug made out of all of our old wool hiking socks!..(cleaned, of course!)…haven’t all of us wondered what to do with old socks that were perfectly good except for a hole in the toe?..(we just gotta find someone who knows how to fashion a “rag” rug!)…then gather the socks and go to work!..(that hutch by the stove could use some fresh paint as well)…i’d love to participate!..(i can bring food!)

I know how to make that type of rug you are talking about. I learned fcrom my mother who made them all the time and sold them. i would be glad to do that. It is time consuming so it wouldn’t be ready until before time for the hostel to open but if you all could send me the cleaned old socks i would be happy to do this. i am currently unemployed due to budget cuts and could start right away. please email me with what you would like done.

We think the rug idea is great and the old carpet really needs to be replaced however that would have to be approved by Bob. Also, we had just planned to go and clean like dust sweep down cob webs and etc. and outside just clean up some of the vines and brush that Bob allows. Also maybe chop fire wood if he needs it as well. We really appreciate the idea and think it’s really great. I know that you said that you couldn’t have it finished until close to next hiker season so maybe if you would like to work on that, that would be great. But we don’t have that many socks, sorry! Besides that was someone elses idea not ours. Like I said we just want to give back to Bob for all his help. But if anyone has some extra carpet laying around and could bring it or even if the rug is finished by then we will run the idea by Bob and get his reply. Again thank you for the offer. We hope that you can come join us!!
