L.L. Bean Microlight tent

Has anyone used LL’s Microlight one or two person tent? For the price, $119 and $129, they look like a great deal. The solo tent weighs 3lbs, 11oz, the two person 4lbs, 6 oz. Not such bad numbers…

I have a hiker freind that has one and loves it. Easy set up. Good in the wind. One man does have room for your back pack

I have used the Microlight 2-man tent for a few years. Not the lightest tent by far but it is well made and durable. And you can’t beat the L.L. Bean satisfaction guarantee.

I used the 2-Man on my 2000 AT thruhike and like it so much I used the one man on my 02 thru. This is an awesome tent. It’s a bit heavy but durable, spacious and attractive. However this year on the PCT I switched to the Tarptent. I’d still use the Microlight on the east coast because of condensation issues. All in all I think this tent rocks.

Great tent, use it for most outdoor stuff I do, except used another tent for the 03 hike, but LL Bean gear is of great quality.

These tents are really wonderful. I outfitted an entire set for my last Boy Scout troop, one per scout. I have used mine for my 2001 thru of the Tahoe Rim Trail and my 2003 thru of the Sea-to-Sea trail. They aren’t freestanding so the tent location is important and they may be tougher to step up in wind/rain, but once up, they are cosy! I’m taking mine on the AT this Feb because I don’t want to be driven by sheltering every night; but look forward to using many shelters when they fit my trek day. I think the AT hikers sometimes have the “luxury” of having abundant sheters, whereas all other trails you “carry your own.”

I think sometimes people overlook simple and cheap solutions to hiking issues. The Microlight tent is awesome. I carried a 2 person tent with me, I mean once you get trail legs a few xtra pounds won’t matter.
