Hey, I just finished watching The Last of the Mohicans again on videotape and didn’t see the AT blazes that are supposed to be visible. I know I was distracted by the movie, but where exactly in the film are they? Pippi

I think most of it was filmed at Chimney Rock NC.

the most visually stunning scenes (the cliffside trail in my opinion) was filmed at the private mountain Chimney Rock near Lake Lure, NC. the dramatic final scene was filmed on the cliffside trail itself. it cost about ten dollars for entrance into this private park. well worth it once a year. it’s not on the at, and they had to remove handrails and signs along the trail for the movie. i have pics of hickorynut falls from a digi-cam if anyone wants to see them.

this is one of my favorite movies.

also, a lot of the movie “dirty dancing” was filmed at lake lure. a chick-flick classic.

anyways, lots of hiking spots in this movie-linville gorge and falls is awesome (and free)

a friend of mine now ownes the front gates and one of the side doors from the fort in the movie. he was out riding around in his truck one day, took a side road near lake james near morganton, nc, and ended up at the fortas they were demolishing it after filming. he bought the gate with post, and the side door. they were hand hewn the old fashion way, and the hardware was blacksmithed the old way on open cokefires. no modern hardware, all forged bolts, nails and hinges. he set it up at the end of his driveway out in the woods as an entrance to his “country estate” (log house on two acres) i helped him unload the gate and timbers off his trailer. they were extremely heavy, solid six by twelve white oak aobut twleve feet tall.

nice way to own a piece of cinema history.
