Any thoughts or advice on walking the JMT NOBO in late August? I’m attempting to lighten up my gear also. What degree bag do you think I should go with? Was thinking about WM ultalite 20 degree bag. Any one have one and how does it hold up?

your plan sounds perfect…perfect time to do the JMT, and 20 degree WM bag should be just right. I have used mine on 3 long distance hikes and it’s still great. Have fun.

Thats always best time in Sierra. I did JMT SOBO last year. Had 15 degree bag with silk liner and never cold. Most nights slept without tarp up. This year more snow so more water. Go light by packing less water and use a liter soda bottle. Skip the nalgene, too heavy. You may have to filter or treat more often but water is very heavy and available most everywhere. Aug- Sept much less bugs but sleep away from meadows and water. Start early AM and camp low to avoid lighting. Go easy at first. Build up to longer miles.

Hiked it 2 times. Both w/12.5lbs pack w/o food/water. That’s with a partner to split weight. Used 25degree bag no prob…although, we did use a tent w/rain fly…so that’s warmer. 11.5 days to hike trail.
