Late Hike - Help with flipflop

I’m hoping to start a thru-hike around the first week of August. I am considering starting at Harpers Ferry, hiking north to Katadin, then finishing Harpers Ferry south to Mt. Springer. Is Harper’s Ferry a good place to start this late in the season?

I started early May at Springer & was tooling thru the Whites in August in between the fast early starters & the slow early starters. It may be ok if you are a fast hiker, at least 500 miles/month; but since most southbounders start from K in July, it may be better to get the wilderness & Washington (MTN) over with & make big mileage in the south where you don’t have to worry about reaching anything by October 15. I got snowed on at a shelter on the Blue ridge Pkwy on Thanksgiving, but no problems further south (I was cycling after AT9 hike).

After seeing the heat wave in PA and MD, I decided to hike South from Maine.
