Latest CT start date

Generally, what’s the latest date you could start the Colorado Trail and make it all the way through without being stopped by deep snow? I’ve heard it can snow on the higher portions in September, but is it really impassible, or just early season snow that you can plow through? I don’t mind a little snow and I don’t mind cold temps as long as they don’t get below zero. But I love the fall season. Assume an average pace.

I have seen over a foot and a half of snow at 9,500’ in mid September, but mid September to mid Oct. is my favorite Colorado Month. It could go single digits, but below zero generally waits until October. You might consider Northbound because last 70 mi to Denver from Kenosha Pass is below treeline. Rainbow Trail along Eastern Sangres is awesome 90 MI, and quite a bit easier to bail from if it does snow. The 19 MI waterless stretch through the San Juans on CT is quite exposed.
