Am having a very difficult time getting updated info on the trail conditions for the Indian Pass detour. Have called several offices and no one really knows anything about it. Do we need a permit for the North Cascade section of the PCT? What shape is the Indian Pass Detour in? Should we just plan to go to Stehekin and pick up the trail northbound? Any ideas folks??

The Northwest took a beating this winter & trail conditions are still up in the air. As the snow melts we’ll get a better idea, that’s why info still sketchy. When do you plan on hitting that section? Getting to Stehekin is a booger too FYI.

We are coming out there the last of July. Hitting the trail on August 1. So how do you get to Stehekin?

Forgot to say that we are flying into Seattle. Also what is the best way to get from the Seattle airport down to Nachez and White Pass or up to Stehekin? This is really getting difficult to get info about how to get there from Seattle. Are there any people that do shuttles?

Are you hiking on White Pass as well? Nice stuff there. As for Stehekin, you pretty much have to either fly in (expensive but fun float plane) or take the ferry up from Chelan. It is a LONG drive from Seattle to Chelan, but once you are to Stehekin there is ashuttle that takes you to the end of the road.

I’ve heard of folks using the airporter shuttles as a way to get from the airport to towns near the trail.
If you’re going to White Pass, get a shuttle to Packwood and hitch the rest of the way. Will likely be spendy. Another way is to fly from Seattle to Yakima (see below for airline) and hitch up Hwy 12.
Getting to Stehekin from Seattle: Check into Greyhound to get to Chelan from down town Seattle. If the Dog doesn’t go to Chelan, there’s another bus line (drawing a blank on it right now) that goes over Stevens Pass. The other way would be to fly from Seattle to Wenatchee (Check out Alaska / Horizon Airlines) then catch the local transit system bus up to Chelan (check the web for details). From there, take the boat to Stehekin.
