Okay, here it is. I’ve been putting off leaving and going northbound. Now is seems time is short and I need to know how short. When is the latest to leave from 17A in NY to go northbound to Maine? Is there anyone flip flopping from this area? Anyone starting out around there and going northbound? Please email me asap. Thanks.

Planning to hike north from Great Barrington, MA. That is 137.2 miles north of NY 17. At 15 mpd around 9 days hike. I plan to be there late 4/31 and on the trail early 8/1. Looking for someone to hike with? Sue T

I live about 5 minutes from 17A in Warwick, so your posting caught my eye. If you left 17A on August 1st, and considered October 15th as your last opportunity to climb Katahdin, you would need to average slightly less than 11 miles per day to reach the northern terminus. That would also allow you to enjoy the foliage in New England. I guess it all depends on your hiking pace. I reached Katahdin in about 50 days from NY last year. I was in pretty good shape having come from Georgia however.
