Don’t know if anyone met Lazarus this past summer, he left SOBO from Katahdin on June 12. We were out for a weekend trip and met him at Hawk Mountain shelter Friday night about 10pm as we marched in through a drenching rain with fog so thick you couldn’t see 20 feet.
Boy, was he was pumped Saturday morning, his last day on the trail. The rain ended and we looked forward to a typical cool overcast November day in North Georgia. Lazarus’ dad had been accompanying him from Gooch Gap SOBO and they both left the Hawk Mt shelter about 7:30 am Saturday morning headed the last few miles to Springer. Like I said, he was pumped up to go and we got a kick out of watching him pack up. The interesting thing is that Lazarus & his dad live about a mile or two below the Hike Inn so they were going to literally walk all the way home to their front doorstep, no shuttle needed.
Laz if you read this, all the best wishes to you and your dad, enjoyed meeting you all.
