My son is hiking the Continental Divide Trail and
I am meeting him in Leadville July 3rd. We are traveling north and I need two bits of info: Where is a good town to get out at about 40 mile north of Leadville on the CDT or the Colorado Trail (or are they one and the same at that point?). And is there any trouble getting over the CDT north of Leadville.
Also, I will have to get back to Leadville to get my car, any ideas?

Talk to the Leadville Hostel for shuttles. The next town is probably Salida from the South (you might want to start there and hike north to leadville) or Copper or Breckinridge to the North, but I’m not sure of the exact mileage.
Hitching is also fairly easy up there. A lot of ski bums in the winter have paved the way for the hikers in the summer. No idea about snow, but I don’t think there are any high passes north of leadville
