Leaving in February?

Anyone else headed Nobo during the last week of February? Myself(no trail name yet), Hot Sauce, and Easy Turtle will make our first attempt at a thru during this time. I hope to meet many other thru hikers during the journey! Say hello or check out our facebook page for people to follow: facebook.com/appalachiantrail2012

I’m looking forward to the hike. Right now, I’m testing gear and training on the Foothills trail in SC. Still having trouble deciding on a water treatment system. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wonna wish you the best on your early start. There is a good chance I will be starting 1 Jan. Lets just pray for a mild winter.

Good luck to you as well! You are definitely off to an early start. I bet you’ll get plenty of solitude.

Bring some fleece as in shirt and pants. Cold in GA in Feb. For water I had a pump filter, but found aquimire (2 part liquid drops) worked well. The only time I used the pump was when water sources were so spares that you had to pump instead of dipping. A few drops of bleach shake and wait 10 minutes is ok as well. Google the specific ratios. I think ,like 5 drops to a liter. If you do get a pump, get one that you can find filters for. Good luck and dont stop. I dont care what happens inside your head out there, just keep going

The early start sounds like a good idea and won’t have so much traffic.

I plan to start nobo thru in early March. And I’m getting ready on the Foothills trail as well.
