Lift out of Salida?

Hi, I will be working at a conference in Aspen which ends on September 15. I am going to extend my time out there and do the section from Leadville to Salida. I know that options are very limited as far as transportation back to Denver from Salida. Does anyone have suggestions or insight in how to get from Salida to Denver. I will be in Salida around September 20-22

Thanks guys,

Probably the easiest and cheapest would be to hitch from Salida. You’d go out of town west on highway 50 through Poncha Springs, (5 miles) then north on 285 to 2 miles south of Buena Vista where 285 goes east and heads toward Denver. On the weekends there are lots and lots of people heading back to Denver on 285 and many of them are outdoor types. I don’t think you’d have too much of a problem getting a ride to Denver. I recently picked up Colorado Trail hiker and brought him back. But I can’t help you at that time because I will be in Montana.

Sounds good, maybe I will write on a piece of Tyvek ahead of time “Hiker to Denver Airport” and use that as a sign.
