I just ordered on evaluation the following:
Pack: Mountainsmith Mountainlight Auspex
Tent: MSR Microzoid

cold weather gear:
OR face mask (to be used with a baclava)
OR shell mittens (used with poly convertable mittens)

already have
Poly pullover and Poly sweatpants
mountain hardwear baselayer shirt
lycra tights looking baselayer my bottom half
marmot precip rain/wind jacket
North face blue kazoo 15 degree bag
closed cell pad
colman peak 1 stove
pur hiker water filter
Vasque Sundowner GTX boots
2 pair smartwool socks
2 pair sockliners (these are nice)

my next big purchase is going to be some hiking poles

My questions are:

Is this all the heavy stuff that I will need?

I want to go pretty dern light but not ultra light, are there any options I should explore?

where can I find resorces on what food to get, how much of it, and how to eat cheap?

What’s the best and the cheapest way to get from the atlanta airport to the trailhead and if I’m really strapped is there a greyhound bus stop close to it?

I’m wanting to go north around march 1st.

Thanks
Robert

Are you taking a sleeping bag? I assume so. That’s the other heavy item besides tent and pack.

Food: Go grocery shopping. Buy rice and grain products (Mac & Cheese, Liptons, oatmeal, pita bread, etc. Figure out how to gt 4000 calories per day.

How to eat cheap? Avoid restraunts.

Cheapest way to get to the trailhead? Follow the hints in Wingfoot or the ALDHA Companion, or get the shuttle list from ATC. There are a few people that shuttle people to the trailhead.

What peak one do you have. I found the multifuel to be too big so it got replaced by a trangia. You might descover this too.
Eat Cheap??? Don’t do that. Unless you have too much fat to begin with, eat large and often. Your body will thank you when to reach New England. I met a SoBo who tried to eat cheap… he decided to eat handfulls of dry cornmeal. You can always try that.
